Happy New Year | My Personal Goals For 2020

BE MORE ORGANISED & BETTER PRIORITISE
With work, my degree, this blog, and general life, things can often feel pretty hectic. What I really need to work towards is a more organised system in which to track my jobs and which, hopefully, can help me to get ahead.
My priorities have been out of whack for a little while. I have a tendency to, unsurprisingly, gravitate towards the jobs I’ll most enjoy rather than the ones that are most urgent. I’d also like to achieve a slightly better work-life balance this year, working smarter and not harder.
TRAVEL & EXPERIENCE MORE
Saying yes to more new experiences was one of my predominant goals for 2019. We traveled to Paris and the Dominican Republic, as well as introducing ourselves to new things closer to home too. With a couple of travel plans already in the making for 2020, I hope to be able to continue experiencing as many new and exciting things as possible.
BE CHARITABLE
One of my smaller goals of 2019 was to donate food bank items in as many of my larger supermarket shops as possible. An extra pound here or there isn’t a loss that I’ve noticed, but over the year I’ve donated quite a lot of basic foods to those in need. I’ll definitely be carrying this habit into 2020, and have also been looking at other ways to make a difference. Supporting the charities that are important to me is something I really want to consciously do more of this year.
DOCUMENT MORE IN REAL-LIFE MODE
I recently wrote my year in review for 2019 and, thanks to Instagram, I had an abundance of photos to look back on and feature. Whilst many of them capture great memories, I’ll admit that a considerable amount of them simply don’t.
Outfit and beauty shots, whilst nice to have, don’t tend to bring back fond memories of real life. I’ll be continuing to work on this type of content but want to make real-life photos a higher priority. This time next year, I hope that more of my camera roll reflects my relationship, my family and friends, and the best parts of my life that haven’t been curated.

EAT LESS MEAT
Since summer last year I’ve cut red meat completely out of my diet. Although I’m not planning on going fully vegetarian, this year I do want to cut down how much meat I eat a little more. Every little helps.
CREATE A HOME
For a while now, our goal has been to become home-owners. For a little too long, we’ve been living in what was supposed to be a more temporary arrangement, in my parents’ annex. Whilst we know how lucky we are to have been able to save some money by comfortably taking up this space, it’s definitely time to look at moving on and creating a home of our own. I love interiors and home decor, so it’s something I’m really excited for, and fingers crossed, it’s a journey that I’ll be able to share.
STREAMLINE
For the last few years, I’ve held a preference for quality over quantity. I want to work on this way of life more this year, investing in long-wearing quality and streamlining everything I own so that my life is filled with things that ‘spark joy’.
LIVE LIFE MORE CONSCIOUSLY & MORE HAPPILY
That’s a big one huh? and pretty general. I find myself a little too often, being the person who asks what suits others best rather than stating my own preference. Too often I let myself fall into situations, wondering how I ended up in them, and knowing fully that it wasn’t by conscious choice. This year I’m working against that. I hope to plan more and be more assertive. After all, you’re supposed to be the leading lady of your own life (bonus points if you know the movie).
I also really, really want to work on happiness above all. Happiness above work ethic, above the feelings of others, above pretty much everything else. That may sound selfish, but as someone who has played the role of people-pleaser, I think it’s about time that I put myself and those I care about first.
So here’s to 2020. I have high expectations.
