How is it that I’m already writing about the very last beauty products I used in 2019? I’m not entirely sure where the year went, but one of my goals throughout it was to work on streamlining my beauty collection. It’s actually a little crazy to think about all of the products I used up as a result. Over the last three months, I produced so many beauty empties, that it’s only really worth telling you about the best and worst of the lot.

MAKEUP EMPTIES

DUO EYELASH ADHESIVE | £9.99

For a long time, I avoided falsies for fear of them peeling off without my knowledge and leaving me looking a little deranged. I don’t really know where the fear stems from, but I do know that with Duo, it’s not something I have to worry about. This is the only eyelash glue that I’ll use because I have full faith in its wear.

You only need the tiniest amount per use, so it tends to ‘go off’ before it runs out. I get rid of mine after about half a year when the consistency and smell begin to slightly change.

DIEGO DALLA PALMA CIGLIONE MASCARA | £18.00

Aside from this mascara, I’m not familiar with the brand. I do, however, know that it’s stocked in M&S, so it’s cruelty-free. There’s not much I can say about this other than it’s just what I want in a mascara. It adds volume and length, has a pretty impressive staying power, and doesn’t smudge under the eyes.

HAIR & BODY BEAUTY EMPTIES

YSL PARISIENNE EAU DE PARFUM | £96.00

I’ve had this in a beauty drawer longer than I’d care to admit. As someone who flits through perfumes, it can take me a while to use up larger bottles.

Parisienne is sweet, bordering on sickly. Towards the end of the bottle, I felt as though it was something my Nan would appreciate far more than I was. The beauty of perfume is that it’s subjective, and I did love this when I originally bought it.

MARK HILL STYLING HEAT PROTECTOR | £5.00

I recommend avoiding this product. Although I won’t speak for it’s worth as a heat protector, I can say that by spraying it, you’ll subject everything within a mile radius to being pretty sticky for the foreseeable.

It took me a while to figure out why, periodically, my vanity, phone, and floor were all covered in a sticky residue. It was this. Avoid.

FRESHLY COSMETICS DETOX SHOWER GEL | £12.00

I’m 100% behind the brand ethos of Freshly Cosmetics. I’ve tried a few of their products and all are ethical, sustainable, and refuse to compromise on quality. This smells delicious, does what it says on the tin, and is gentle on the skin. Hey- that rhymes.

SOAP & GLORY SUGAR CRUSH BUTTERCREAM | £10.00

Sugar Crush is one of my all-time favourite scents. It achieves a perfect balance of fresh and sweet and is the most invigorating scent for morning use.

Soap & Glory body butters speak for themselves, don’t they? To summarise; affordable, moisturising, and comfortable on the skin.

NORVELL 1 HOUR RAPID MOUSSE | £29.99

I am one of the world’s worst fake tanners. I’m far too lazy for impeccable upkeep and have no shame in tanning only the body parts that people (my lucky, lucky, boyfriend excluded) will actually see. For that reason, I opt for tanning products that make my life easier wherever possible. I punctuate standard tanning products with those that are quick to use, or even better, don’t need to be washed off at all.

Unlike the many fake tans which suggest leaving on for two hours but which everyone knows is code for ‘sleep in the stuff’, this one really does work in only an hour or so. I still tend to leave it on for longer than suggested, but it’s my go-to for last-minute plans which require a tan.

SKINCARE EMPTIES

NEEK FACE MOISTURISER | £18.00

I’m not going to go into this in too much detail, as I have already written a review in the form of a Neek First Impressions. Essentially, its another brand with a great ethos (sustainable packaging and vegan) and this makes a nice morning moisturiser.

PIXI GLOW TONIC CLEANSING GEL | £18.00

I often speak about my love for the glow tonic range. Of which, the toner and cleansing gel are perhaps my favourite products. It took a little while to get used to this, as it doesn’t foam like cleansers I’m used to. After realising how amazing this stuff makes my skin look, it’s a minor annoyance I can completely forgive.

NO7 HOT CLOTH CLEANSER

I have a feeling they rebranded this a while ago, but at one point I held a little stockpile. The No7 hot cloth cleansers have made up a few of my beauty empties as they’re an affordable, and slightly more gentle, version of the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser. I use it specifically to remove makeup in the shower, and it leaves my skin clean and super soft.

And there we have it. The best and worst of the beauty products that helped me see out 2019.

I feel as though beauty empties aren’t focused on as much as they used to be? Although reviews are, of course, helpful, I like empties as they provide a slightly better insight into what people are using day in and day out. My opinions on products also quite frequently change over the course of using them, so it’s a completely honest account of beauty I’ve had a lot of experience with. I’d love to know if they’re something you find helpful?
