Personal Style | Easy Ways to Look Put Together Everyday

To quote the icon, Carrie Bradshaw ‘I like my money where I can see it — hanging in my closet’. Obviously, don’t look to this for financial advice. There are lots of places I like to see my money; digits growing in an account, photos on the wall from the places I’ve been and in bricks and mortar, to name just a few. The premise though, is that fashion is worth the investment. Aside from the pleasure of owning pretty things, having a capsule collection to help you feel your best every day can feel priceless. With the rise of high maintenance to be low maintenance, here are some steps you can put in place to ensure some easy ways to look put together.
BUILD A CAPSULE WARDROBE
The functionality of clothing is important. How it looks should be of equal consideration if your goal is to look put together. Building a capsule wardrobe is no easy feat, it takes a critical eye and constant consideration of the overall aesthetic you’re trying to achieve. However, once it’s established, looking put together in the morning becomes second nature. It eliminates the frantic morning rush of trying to find pieces that look good together, or pieces that fit correctly. In theory, your colour palettes are clearly organised and everything should fit like a dream.
People often associate a capsule wardrobe with neutrals and classic fits. I’ll admit that this makes up the bulk of mine, but it really can be whatever you make it. Defined as ‘a small collection of clothes that can be put together in different ways and includes everything you would normally need to wear’, you can definitely still choose to fill it with your favourite colours and fits.

ADD SOME UNIQUE PIECES
A classic style is the safest, and potentially the most easy way to look put together. It can however, lack in originality and limit more adventurous outfit options. Whilst a capsule wardrobe will serve you daily, it’s also important to treat yourself to a few original and unique pieces. Just make sure that you love what you buy. The goal is for nothing to end up unworn and unloved at the back of your wardrobe. I love to look at street styles from around the world for inspiration. If you don’t want to carbon copy the styles you admire on others, there are often finishing touches you can easily incorporate.
I also like to add some unique custom items as and when I come across them. There’s something special about wearing something that you’re not going to see on many other people (if at all). I’m a big advocate for designing custom pieces at bespoke jewellers. Accessories are another very easy way to look put together every day. In a matter of seconds, classic pieces of jewellery can elevate an entire look. I like to make sure my jewellery collection is timeless and simple. This way the only choice I have in the morning is gold or silver?

ADD TO YOUR EXISTING COLLECTION
A capsule wardrobe doesn’t mean getting bored of the same old outfits and wearing on repeat. Assess your favourite current pieces and continue to add things that you love. My idea of the perfect capsule is to help me understand the colours and styles that suit my complexion and body shape. Automatically knowing what suits you and what doesn’t simplifies shopping and dressing and really helps with body confidence. I have some key pieces that I will rewear until they fall apart. A lot of my staples are from affordable high-street stores like H&M so it doesn’t necessarily need to break the bank.
Making the getting ready process effortless takes some initial time, effort and expense. Once you’ve begun to establish your style collection, you’ll likely only grow in confidence and it all becomes so much more simple.
