Scandal Perfume

I’ve been inspired by Parisian chic for a very long time. Years ago, The Devil Wears Prada introduced me to the glamour that is Paris fashion week, but my recent visit to the capital showed me a different angle. Exploring the city myself gave me a much greater appreciation for the overall vibe as well as its classic street style.

I find myself constantly inspired by many factors, but the experiences of new places that travel allows is one which never fails me. In Paris, inspiration is around every corner, I found it in the diverse architecture from historical galleries to more modern landmarks. I found it in the stylish Parisian women who I admired around almost every corner. The similarity between these women being their seemingly effortless ability simply to be selective in their style choices. It’s a talent much easier said than done.

Be More French

I believe that a look is in the detail. To well execute a specific style, there are a few factors to consider. Boots recently sent me a bottle of the new John Paul Gautier perfume– Scandal and challenged me to be more French. So with Paris in mind, heres what I do to be more French in terms of overall style.

Beauty

The French approach to beauty often seems more natural and relaxed, but is it? One of my biggest beauty beliefs is that achieving great skin is a priority. Some of the biggest cult beauty skincare items right now are from French brands.

No-one can really tell if great skin is down to genes or expensive products and a lengthy routine. Or whether a messy bun was thrown up or took half an hour to get just right. What I’m saying is that looks can appear effortless even when they’re not. The overall goal of Parisian style seems to be to always achieve an effortless look, regardless of how much effort it actually cost.

I’ve always admired the cool vibe given off by women who accept imperfections as integral parts of individuality. Who understand that confidence is attractive. As with French style generally, simplicity is key. Think no-makeup-makeup-looks or the bold minimalism of a smokey eye. I like to opt for a staple red lip as a single focus, with other makeup kept to a minimum.

Fragrance

John Paul Gautier’s Scandal truly encompasses a Parisian style. Signature honey is paired with notes of tuberose, sandalwood and Tonka bean to achieve sophistication with a fresh, feminine twist. It’s a scent that lingers both in a room and in your mind.

Despite the many ways of adding finishing touches, I typically find fragrance the perfect way to complete a style. From sweet and fresh to heavier and more sultry, each occasion warrants a fitting scent and each scent warrants a fitting occasion. Scandal is both fresh and chic. It suits the confident woman going about her business in the city and with that vision I immediately feel more capable myself.

Fashion

Capsule wardrobes and investing in long-lasting fashion is becoming more and more popular. Parisian women were ahead of the game. Their style showcases the power of minimalism with a ‘less is more’ outlook. As Coco Chanel famously put it: ‘Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.‘
