New Years Resolutions

What can I say about New Years Resolutions? Quite frankly, nothing nice. Over the years I’ve made plenty, most of which I don’t remember and many of which I’m certain didn’t progress past the initial notion. I’m a little ashamed to admit that as of yet I’ve definitely not achieved an enviable gym body. Nor have I become fluent (or even close) in any other language. I can, however, pinpoint exactly why past resolutions have been quickly forgotten about. There’s a pressure that I’m sure many of us feel at the beginning of a new year, that this one will be the one; the best year yet. We convince ourselves that of all of the things we want to achieve are attainable and set unrealistic goals as a result. Failure to stick to resolutions also tends to have a lot to do with a little reluctance to actually put the effort in.

Resolutions Aren’t Set In Stone

For the many of us who could do with being a little more strong-willed, unclear resolutions will never work. The best intentions aren’t quite enough to guarantee that we will follow through. Unfortunately, success requires fewer ideals and a little more action. Honestly – that’s pretty much the crux of it.

Firstly, by setting only one or two attainable resolutions, you’ll be doing yourself a favour and increasing chances of success. Secondly, set your resolutions in motion immediately. Don’t just think about what you want to achieve, but also how you’re going to go about it. Schedule working on your goals into your calendar, else you’ll never find the time.

Begin as You Mean to go on

My single resolution in 2019 is to travel and experience more. Last year it was the same. The problem with last year is that I kept talking about going on holiday; where we should go and when. We deliberated a lot but made very little headway. This year I’m pleased to be able to say that we already have a Luxury Spa Stay booked for February. This Christmas I told Jamie that I’d love experiences rather than material gifts for Christmas. He surprised me with the booking of a mid-week break to Prague (in April), and tickets for James Acaster in June. We’ve also just booked our main 2019 holiday to the Dominican Republic in the new year sales!

New Years Resolutions

We’re still in January and these plans mean that I’ve already made more success of this year’s resolutions than last. Just by beginning immediately. The less talk, more action approach is very easy with regards to making plans but there are head-on ways of tackling most other resolutions too. When it comes to learning a skill- sign up to some classes, or set a more extensive resolution, detailing what exactly it is that you want to have achieved and when by.

The more specific plans the better, and with that I wish you a happy new year and all the best in succeeding with your resolutions.
